1. Cấu trúc In order to/ So as trong tiếng Anh là gì?
Cấu trúc In order to/ So as đều mang ý nghĩa là “để, để mà”. Được sử dụng trong câu nhằm thể hiện mục đích của hành động đã được nhắc đến ngay trước đó.
For example:
- He got up early in order to go to the office on time. = He got up early so as to go to the office on time.
(Anh ấy thức dậy sớm để đến văn phòng đúng giờ.)
=> Trong trường hợp này, việc “thức dậy sớm” có mục đích là để “đến văn phòng đúng giờ”. Do đó, chúng ta sử dụng “in order to” hoặc “so as to” khi muốn diễn tả ý nghĩa trên.
Do ý nghĩa ngữ pháp trong câu, cấu trúc In order to/ So as còn được dùng để kết nối 2 câu chỉ mục đích lại với nhau.
- Jane learns Chinese very hard. His aim is to work in China.
(Jane học tiếng Trung Quốc rất chăm chỉ. Mục đích của anh ấy là làm việc ở Trung Quốc.)
=> Jane learns Chinese very hard in order to/so as to work in China.
(Jane học tiếng Trung rất chăm chỉ để làm việc ở Trung Quốc.)
2. Cấu trúc In order to/ So as to trong tiếng Anh
Đều mang ý nghĩa “để, để mà” khi xuất hiện trong câu, nhưng in order to và so as to lại có cách sử dụng khác nhau phụ thuộc vào chủ thể của hành động. Vậy sự khác biệt đó là gì?
Khi mục đích của hành động hướng đến chính chủ thể của hành động đã được nêu ở phía trước, ta dùng cấu trúc sau
| S + V + in order (not) to/ so as (not) to + Vinf… |
For example:
- June spent all his money in order to buy a new car.
(June đã dành toàn bộ tiền của anh ấy để mua một chiếc xe mới.)
- I studied hard so as not to fail the upcoming exam.
(Tôi học hành chăm chỉ để không trượt kỳ thi sắp tới.)
Khi mục đích hành động hướng tới đối tượng khác, ta sử dụng cấu trúc:

For example:
- June spent all his money in order for his son to buy a new apartment.
(June đã dành toàn bộ tiền của mình để giúp con trai ông ấy mua một căn hộ mới.)
- Mary works hard so as for her children to have a better life.
(Mary làm việc chăm chỉ để các con cô ấy có một cuộc sống tốt hơn.)
3. Một số lưu ý khi sử dụng cấu trúc in order to/so as to
Cấu trúc in order to và so as to thường xuất hiện trong nhiều bài tập kết hợp 2 câu thành 1. Vậy các bạn cần lưu ý một số nội dung bên dưới để tránh mọi lỗi sai không đáng có nhé!
Cấu trúc in order to và so as to chỉ được sử dụng để nối 2 câu chỉ mục đích khi:
- Hai câu cần có cùng một chủ ngữ
- Khi nối 2 câu, chúng ta cần bỏ chủ ngữ câu sau, bỏ các từ như: “want, like, hope…”, giữ lại động từ sau nó.
For example:
- I always get up early. I don’t want to go to school late.
(Tôi luôn dậy sớm. Tôi không muốn đi học muộn).
=> I always get up early in order not to go to school late.
(Tôi luôn dậy sớm để không đi học muộn).
- Linda wears warm clothes in winter. She doesn’t want to have a cold.
(Linda mặc ấm vào mùa đông. Cô ấy không muốn bị cảm lạnh).
=> Linda wears warm clothes in winter so as not to have a cold.
(Linda mặc ấm vào mùa đông để không bị cảm lạnh.)
4. Một số cấu trúc tương đồng với In order to và So as trong tiếng Anh
Cấu trúc In order to/ So as trong ngữ pháp tiếng Anh còn rất nhiều cấu trúc khác nhau với mục đích khác nhau.
4.1. Cấu trúc “to V”: để
Cấu trúc to V là ở dạng đơn giản nhất mang ý nghĩa tương đương với in order to và so as to.
For example:
- John has taken his camera everywhere he goes in order to take meaningful photos.
= John has taken his camera everywhere he goes to take some meaningful photos.
(John mang máy ảnh của anh ấy mọi nơi mà anh ta tới để chụp lại những bức ảnh ý nghĩa.)
- I often go jogging in the morning so as to stay healthy.
= I often go jogging in the morning to stay healthy.
(Tôi thường đi bộ thể dục vào mỗi sáng để giữ cơ thể khỏe mạnh.)
Khi sử dụng cấu trúc câu ở trên, các bạn cần lưu ý: Ở dạng câu phủ định, chúng ta không được sử dụng not + to V thay thế cho in order/ so as + not to V.
4.2. Cấu trúc so that
Một cấu trúc khác tương đồng với cấu trúc in order to và so as to thường gặp khác là so that. Khi sử dụng cấu trúc này, các bạn cần kết hợp thêm một số động từ khuyết thiếu như: can/could/will/would.
Cấu trúc:
| S + V + so that S + will/would/can/could + (not) + V. |
For example:
Jimmy worked very hard in order to get better grades. = Jimmy worked very hard so that he could get better grades.
(Jimmy đã làm việc rất chăm chỉ để có thể đạt được điểm số cao hơn.)
4.3. Cấu trúc with a view to V-ing: Để có …
Đây là cấu trúc ngữ pháp thường xuyên xuất hiện ở dạng bài tập viết lại khó. Tuy nhiên, nếu hiểu được cách sử dụng thì các bạn hoàn toàn có thể giải quyết được các bài tập này.
Cấu trúc:

For example:
- I have to practice playing the guitar so much to have a good performance tomorrow.
=> With a view to having a good performance tomorrow, I have to practice playing the guitar so much.
(Để có buổi trình diễn tốt vào ngày mai, tôi phải tập đánh ghi ta rất nhiều.)
- Mr.Linda is decorating his house so as to sell it at a higher price.
=> With a view to selling the house at a higher price, Mr.Linda is decorating it.
(Để có thể bán ngôi nhà ở mức giá cao hơn, ông Linda đang trang trí lại nó.)
4.4. Cấu trúc with an aim of V-ing: để …
Cấu trúc with a view to và with an aim of đều đi sau bởi động từ V-ing. Tuy nhiên hãy lưu ý rằng giới từ trong tiếng Anh đi cùng với 2 cấu trúc này để không mắc phải nhầm lẫn nhé.
Cấu trúc câu:

- I found a new apartment near Ho Guom to work conveniently.
=> With an aim of working conveniently, I found a new apartment near Ho Guom.

=> With an aim of buying a new laptop, I’ve collected money.
