3. 10 cụm từ tiếng Anh về biển bạn có thể chưa biết

3.1. Go to sea

Cụm từ này không có chỉ đơn thuần có nghĩa là những hành động du lịch, tắm biển hay chụp hình. Nó còn có một ý nghĩa lớn lao hơn. “Go to sea” tức là gắn cuộc đời của những con người với biển. Bạn có thể hiểu cụm động từ này nghĩa là “trở thành những thủy thủ”.

3.2. To be at sea

3.3. Get/have one’s sea legs

“Sea legs” ở đây không có nghĩa là đi biển và mọc thêm những cái chân, mà đó là “khả năng chống chịu, tự cân bằng khi đi tàu ra biển”.

Người Anh dùng thành ngữ này thay cho câu “tiến thoái lưỡng nan” của người Việt khi nói về một tình thế khó khăn, khó ra quyết định.

Ví dụ: 

I couldn’t make up my mind whether I should attend the my ex-girlfriend wedding or not. I was caught between a rock and a hard place.

(Tôi không quyết định được là có nên đi dự đám cưới của người yêu cũ không nữa. Thật là tiến thoái lưỡng nan.)

3.6. Plenty more fish in the sea

Nếu bạn nói: There are flenty more fish in the sea. Điều đó có nghĩa là có nhiều lựa chọn khác trong một tình huống. Cụm từ này thường được nói để an ủi ai đó khi vừa trải qua tan vỡ quan hệ tình cảm.

Ví dụ: 

Don’t worry, you will find another boyfriend soon. There are plenty more fish in the sea.

3.8. Sea change

Nếu như bạn đang muốn nói đến “một sự thay đổi lớn mang tính quyết định” thì “sea change” đúng là thứ bạn đang cần.

Ví dụ:
